Nonclassical Light from Semiconductor Microcavities and Quantum Wells

Project B2

joint project with Prof. Stolz (AG Halbleiteroptik)

Nonclassical semiconductor light sources will be studied theoretically and experimentally. In the theoretical part, the light fields emitted by quantum dots in semiconductor microcavities and by excitons in quantum wells will be modeled, and nonclassical light sources for practical applications will be optimized. Using homodyne measurements of the light fields, their Wigner and filtered P-functions will be reconstructed in order to extract the full information about the quantum states. Moreover, the predicted strong entanglement of exciton-polaritons will be investigated.

Quantum Correlations of Light and Matter: Quantification and Application

Project B12

In this project we aim to develop methods to identify quantum correlations of multipartite, bosonic, and fermionic systems. A universal quantification of entanglement and nonclassicality for multipartite systems will be introduced for general space-time dependent quantum systems. A central goal is to construct operational measures characterizing the usable amount of quantum correlations of states or processes in lossy and noisy environments. A method for the identification of mutipartite quantum correlations from phase-space representations of a quantum state will be developed.
